Wondering what to sell on Amazon? Try Kickstarter
What’s the #1 driver of financial success on Amazon?
Some will say the listing.
Some will say marketing.
Some will say maybe it’s Maybelline.
Me? (with my $13m in Amazon ad spend across 200+ brands— not to brag 😉)
I say it’s product.
It’s the “small hinge that swings a big door”.
It’s the point of maximum leverage.
Because having a good product (defined as a delightful customer experience that folks would rate 10/10 in a NPS survey), starts a virtuous cycle on Amazon:
Reviews come in quickly and positively, which increases click-thru/sales, which increases ranking, which in turn increases sales/reviews, etc. etc. 🌀🌀🌀 a great product is the spark that creates the raging fire.
So, question for you:
Where to find great products?
There are the usual apps (Jungle Scout, Helium10). But the problem with those is that a lot of other sellers have access to them, too. And I worry that with a lot of sellers looking at the same data, they start thinking the same. And pursuing the same product opportunities.
So instead, I want to give you a different source.
And unfair advantage as a ‘thank you’ for hanging out with me, here.
This is 100% free.
All it takes is a little web browsing. Hear me out:
Specifically, their “Design & Tech” section: https://www.kickstarter.com/design-tech
Refresher: Kickstarter is a crowdfunding website. Product designers put their concepts online in hopes of getting pre-orders (the product has yet to be mass produced). They use the pre-order money to fund the first batch of inventory. And often, mold fees, setup fees, etc. Buyers get to be first in line to try the newest stuff.
I just browsed the “Design & Tech” section.
Here are some products with Amazon private label potential (note: these campaigns are still live at the time of writing – Nov 4, 2022, so they’ll have raised more by the time you read this):
– portable hammock with $200k in pre-orders: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/yellowleafhammocks/the-vista-portable-hammock-and-stand
– solar powered blinds with $300k in pre-orders: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/switchbot/switchbot-blind-tilt-solar-powered-retrofit-smart-blinds
– minimalist wall calendar with $13k in pre-orders: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/iota-inc/the-minimalists-wall-calendar-visualize-your-2023
– modular notebook with $248k in pre-orders: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/antou/book-nota-work-creativity-liberated-20
I like Kickstarter as Amazon private label product inspiration because:
– the Kickstarter sellers are validating consumer demand FOR you!
– they’re cool new twists on existing physical products. With novel value to customers
– as we said, this data is totally OFF of Amazon, so other sellers aren’t seeing this
So, give it a shot.
Just watch out for patent/IP issues. This isn’t about copying, but rather inspiration.
And lastly:
If you sell a product that you’re confident in and want it to reach more people, I can help with that.
I have built a company of Amazon ad specialists. That’s all we’ve been doing for 5+ years. And, for free, we’ll create a tailored plan to get your product seen and sold. Profitably.
Here’s the link to get a free planning session (a $300 value), if you wish:
