Prediction: the future of Amazon listings is…
Imagine you want to convince someone of something really badly.
What medium do you use?
Talking?
Text?
Photos?
Video?
If this deal was life or death, you’d want to talk to them in-person, right?
That’s why—even in a digital age— multimillion-dollar deals are still closed in person. High-level business folks have no problem jumping on a jet to do an important deal. They know, intuitively, that face-to-face, in-person contact is still the most persuasive medium. Even in 2023.
Guess what mediums these high-level dealmakers do NOT rely on:
– text. Imagine trying to close a deal via SMS. Or email. Or WhatsApp. Getting your point across with written words is tough. Your words can be misinterpreted. And folks can just stop reading anytime. There’s no urgency to it
– photos. Diagrams, graphs, infographics, etc. are a little more convincing. But again, they can be misinterpreted and they aren’t super engaging
– phone. Better. They can now hear your tone of voice, your inflection, and your character can shine through. It’s still missing visuals
– video. Quite good. Other people can hear your voice, and also pick up your body language. That’s why video conferencing stepped in to fill the void left during COVID
– in person. The best. It’s got it all: words, voice, facial expressions, body language, and even smell
I just found this online: “It was Albert Mehrabian, a researcher of body language, who first broke down the components of a face-to-face conversation. He found that communication is 55% nonverbal, 38% vocal, and 7% words only.”
So, how does this help you make money?
My weird (but likely true) theory is that Amazon listings will follow the same trajectory in the future. And sellers can prepare now.
In the early days of the internet, everything was sold using text. Personal ads on Craigslist, for example.
Sites like Amazon then added photos to help “sell” people on more products.
In the last few years, you’ll notice that Amazon has emphasized video. Both in listings and as Sponsored Brand video ads. They’ve also rolled out Amazon Live for livestream shopping.
Next will be VR retail experiences, so you can feel like you’re there in person.
What you can do now (since we’re currently in Amazon’s “video age”):
– add richer media to all your Amazon listings. Adding a video to your listing is actually really simple. Go to Seller Central > “Inventory” > “Upload & Manage Videos”
– launch Amazon Sponsored Brand Video ads. Here’s a quick idea for an SB video that can make you more money: https://youtube.com/shorts/BVA7FT6Fm2M
What if you had a trusted advisor that was with you every step of the way, helping you make decisions like this?
And what if you had a team (for a fraction of the cost of a full-time employee) running your Amazon marketing and growing your business, so you could focus on high-level priorities like new product launches?
That’s the service I provide.
But, the service isn’t a fit for all sellers. We want to make sure that it’s right. You can book a free consultation call to explore it, here:
