Does Amazon PPC software work? It’s like the “they did surgery on a grape” meme
Amazon PPC software is great at making 100s of small adjustments.
For example:
Say you wanted to keep your ACoS below 40%.
The Amazon PPC software can make many minor bid adjustments to ensure ACoS stays in that range. And there’s definite value there. Doing it manually (as a human) is very tedious. I know because I’ve done it.
But:
Does software know that our product is aimed at middle-aged moms in the sunbelt?
Does it know to position the product as premium versus more commoditized offerings?
Does it know that, because the product has been out of stock, we need to get ranking back before focusing again on profit?
No.
Modern dat software solutions (Amazon PPC software included) isn’t yet smart enough to build general, top-level growth strategies. But they’re great at maintaining and optimizing. I say “yet” because AI is advancing quickly, and I have no doubt it will (one day) be capable of high level strategy. But for now:
PPC software is great at optimizing for pre-set goals (like ACoS) set by humans.
Similarly:
In 2010, a robot did surgery on a grape.
To demonstrate its superior precision, the robot (named “da Vinci”) snipped the grape skin, peeled it back, and then sewed up the skin. Perfectly. This has since (for whatever reason) become a viral meme called “they did surgery on a grape” and the video has 7.5 million views. Funny what catches on, huh?
But you know what?
There’s a surgeon at the back of the room guiding the machine. And humans set up the operating room in the first place.
It’s a winning combination for the 2020s:
Humans for strategy.
Software for tactics.
It’s never been about software replacing humans.
It’s about what software and humans can achieve together.
That’s why, when we help Amazon sellers to scale revenue, we employ a mix of both software (for the tactics) and human experts (to guide the strategy). We’ve tested it all, and this is the best combination for profitable growth on Amazon.
