Amazon PPC strategy for getting Xmas traffic WITHOUT spending a fortune
We’re going into mid-December, which means Amazon will be flooded with holiday shoppers.
The keyword “Christmas gifts” will receive an estimated 800,000 monthly searches on Amazon.com (US) alone.
The proof: do you know anyone who’s done with their shopping by December 12? 😉
If that’s you, congratulations. I need to learn from you.
But personally, I don’t know a soul!
So, what’s the best way to monetize all this traffic?
Most sellers are going to buy Amazon Ad space for terms like “holiday gifts” or “Christmas gifts” or “gift ideas”.
BUT
Buying this traffic is expensive.
And as we talked about yesterday, Amazon PPC can kill all your profit if uncontrolled.
Because everyone (across many different product categories) is bidding on those same terms. This will drive the cost per click (CPC) up. So instead, here’s something you can try.
For example:
Say you sell can openers.
Instead of going after the generic term “holiday gifts”, you can target gift terms with 1 modifier that adds specificity:
“gifts for chefs” (3700 monthlies)
“foodie gifts” (3800 monthlies), or
“kitchen gifts” (18,000 monthlies)
Sure, they’re less mass-market.
But they’re more targeted.
You’ll convert more.
And spend less per click.
Another thing you can try is price targeting using keywords. If your can opener sells for under $25, you can target terms like “kitchen gifts under $25”. I’d recommend Broad and Phrase match, so you can cast a wider net initially.
